William Baker

William Baker co-founded Jones Baker Design in 1998. The firm specializes in the conceptual development, design, and architecture of hospitality projects with a focus on food & beverage venues locally and throughout the US and abroad. After graduating from The School of Architecture at The University of Texas in Austin, he moved back to Dallas and quickly fell in love with the central city and the older parts of town where history was physically present. While working in Deep Ellum and then the Design District he would explore all the neighborhoods looking for cool older buildings to photograph (or dream of redoing) or by chance stumble upon an inexpensive lot he could afford. He purchased his first piece of property, a small vacant lot on Gould Street in the Cedars, in 1997 liking the proximity to other creative friends and adjacency to Downtown, the urban grit was free with purchase! He moved Jones Baker to South Akard Street 10 years ago and has been involved at a grass roots level as the neighborhood has evolved. He previously served as an officer of the CNA approximately 8 years ago, helped document the heritage trees of The Cedars, and donated the use of a property to the Cedars Community Garden. He also served on the board of the Presbyterian Housing Program a non-profit housing program for 6 years, two years as President. He sees 2019 as a pivotal year for The Cedars with the increased attention and opening of PD 317 - our neighborhood zoning code to an update. He feels his balanced view and passion for the neighborhood, combined with his experience and pledge of transparency will be valuable in leading the association for the next year.

VP of Membership: Shall greet and register member attendees at general meeting. Provide verification of attendee’s membership. Coordinate annual membership drives.

As someone who cares deeply about the Cedars neighborhood and its residents, I am excited about the possibility of joining the CNA board as VP of Membership. If elected to this position, I hope to strengthen the bond of our residents by creating more opportunities for CNA members to engage within the community. It would be my privilege to serve in this role, and, if elected, I will bring my passion, knowledge, and resources to make positive contributions that significantly impact the Cedars community and the lives of those who call this vibrant and eclectic neighborhood home.

VP of Communication: Coordinate website content. Provide an overall strategy for neighborhood communication on topics relevant to the neighborhood. Solicit regular input from area representatives.

Darlene Schneider (write in candidate)
Doug Caudill

Summer Whitley
As a community activist and Cedars’ homeowner for over 20 years, I have been involved in grass-roots campaigns for each level of government, most recently for the Beto campaign working both the phones and pounding the pavement. For several years, I have served as CASA volunteer for the state of Texas, and work with the Red Cross during catastrophes such as Katrina. On a more local level, I have organized with neighbors to advocate for needed changes and improvements working directly with Mayor Mike Rawlings -- including having Coombs Street repaved.

Four years ago, I started and have continued to run the Cedars Community Garden, and am a member of The Cedars Heritage Tree Conservation Committee Team documenting the species and health of our Cedars trees. I also serve on the board of the Cedars Open Studio Tour. I have been a member of the CNA for a number of years, and want to be more involved and to help it grow with our ever-expanding, wonderful community that is the Cedars. I am proud to live and serve this wonderful area, and hope you will consider me for VP of Communications. Thank you.

Recording Secretary: Shall keep an accurate record of all topics discussed at official meetings of the Association, including regularly scheduled and special meetings of the Association and the Executive Committee. This officer shall also be responsible for the accumulation and maintenance of the central permanent file of such records which will also include official correspondence records. If the designated Recording Secretary is not present at an Association meeting or Executive Committee meeting, the presiding officer shall designate a Secretary for that meeting. The minutes or records for that meeting shall be given to the Recording Secretary for inclusion in the Association’s permanent records.

Linda Garner (incumbent)

With her previous positions on the board, she understands how each position complements the other, and how the Recording Secretary is an integral piece to the neighborhood association. She brings much-needed experiential knowledge, tenacity, and dedication to the neighborhood association, during this crucial time in The Cedars.

Professionally, she works within the field of Radiology since 2005, having spent most of her tenure in a level-one trauma department in a university hospital. With that, she recognizes that documentation in medicine is held to the same level as that of Recording Secretary.
